The Bears cut Kahlil Bell last week. He produced last year in actual meaningful games. Sound like a step up from the current Chargers options?
Bell is not so far removed from Ryan Mathews. He showed the ability to lower his shoulder well in college. He has some burst and decent speed, although nothing you would label ‘breakaway.’ He also thinks he’s good, even amongst NFL peers.
He was got hurt in college even more than Mathews, and has fumbling problems. The fumbling is a serious issue, and if Jackie Battle can hang onto the rock better than Bell can, I’ll stick with what we have. But Bell is better than one of the 75 people currently on this roster, and deserves a shot, particularly from a team in need of a back-up running back.
